Q: “What is MarcoPolo World School”

A: MarcoPolo World School is a PhD-designed early learning school for children ages 3-7, offering literacy and a comprehensive STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) curriculum with 2000+ lessons and learning activities. There will be more lessons and learning activities added weekly.

Q: “How much does it cost?”

A: MarcoPolo World School requires a subscription to access to our 2000+ lessons and learning activities, with more added each week.

  • New subscriptions include a free 7-day trial. You can choose between a monthly subscriptions that costs $9.99 (or equivalent in your local currency) per month or an annual subscription which costs $5.83 per month, billed annually at $69.99 (or equivalent in your local currency). Payment will be charged to your iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase.
  • The subscription will then automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.
  • Account will be charged for renewal within the 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
  • To manage your subscriptions turn off any auto-renewal, you can go to your Account Settings on your device after purchase.

Q: "Can I leave my child/student to learn on their own?"

A:Learning is more fun when we learn together. That goes especially for children learning with you, the parent. But we do understand that sometimes parents just don’t have the opportunity to do so.

That is why we have designed World School in such a way that it is easy and safe for your child to explore and learn on their own.

And our unique “Let’s talk” feature and Weekly Reports means that you will always be able to take part in your little one’s many learning adventures.

Q: “I can’t hear any sound in the app”

A: Check that your device’s sound is on and that the game sounds have not been muted. If this doesn’t work, restart your device and try again.

Also, make sure you have the latest version of World School installed on your device. To check, simply go to the App Store on your mobile phone or tablet and click Updates at the bottom of the screen. If you see an update for World School just click the “Update” button to the right.

You should also make sure you are using the latest version of Apple’s iOS. To check, click on Settings and then go to General. Now click on Software Update at the top of the screen. Your device will now check for any new updates and ask you to install if it finds any.

On some iPhones and iPads, the side switch can be set to either mute sounds or lock rotation. It is possible that the sounds are muted with the mute switch, but the button itself is set to lock rotation. To restore sounds in this case, you will have to go to Settings, click General and under "Use side switch to:" select "Mute".

Now just mute the sounds with the side switch, launch World School and unmute sounds.

This should bring back sounds and you can then change the side switch back to rotation lock if you wish.

Another option is to mute the device sounds with the side switch, shut down the device completely, turn it back on and then unmute.

Q: “How can I take part in my child’s/student’s learning?”

A: Developing tools to help parents participate in their child’s education is very important to us at MarcoPolo. We work with PhDs in early childhood education and child psychology and curiosity to develop a fun way for parents to engage with the same lessons your child loves. These conversations between parent and child promote healthy parent/child interactions and can help nurture curiosity and a love for learning.

Our “Let’s Talk” feature provides your child with a playful way to share the lessons they find interesting with you.

Here is how it works:

  • 1. While they are watching a lesson, a small heart icon will appear in the top right corner of the screen. If your child/student wants to share this topic with you, they need to tap the heart icon.
  • 2. You will be sent an email with the lessons they liked and wanted to share with you (up to 3 lessons in 1 daily email).
  • 3. Once you have received the email, please click on the links to the lessons. This will take you into the World School-app where you can watch the lesson (so the email needs to be viewed on the mobile device).
  • 4. At the end of each shared lesson, we will present you with a set of suggested questions and a fun fact to ask your child, helping to encourage further learning and give them an opportunity to impress you with what they have learned.

Q: “I get an error message when clicking the link for a video my child/student has shared with me.”

A: You will need to install MarcoPolo World School on your mobile device to view this video. If you do not yet have it installed, please download it here from the Apple App Store. The link will only work on a mobile device. You will not be able to open the link from your PC or Mac.

Attention iOS 11 users: If you are using the latest version of Apple’s operating system iOS on your device (version 11.2), you may experience some issues with this feature such as the following error message when you click the video links in the email:

This is due to an error in Apple’s iOS, that Apple are aiming to have fixed in the very near future.

In the meantime, here are some ways to get around this temporary issue:

Manually open the link

  • 1. You should see a bar with the World School logo just above the error message like on the screenshot below.
    • a. (Please note: you might not see this bar straight away. If this is the case, just place your finger on the screen and pull down to reveal the bar.)

  • 2. On the far right side of this bar, you should see a link that says “OPEN”.
  • 3. Simply click this link and World School should open and play the video your child/student wants to share with you.

Reinstall World School

If this not working, you can also try and reinstall the World School app.

  • 1. Uninstall World School
  • 2. Restart your device.
  • 3. Reinstall World School from the App Store.
  • 3. Wait about a minute after the app has installed, then start the app and log back into your World School account.
  • 4. Now exit the app, go to your Let’s Talk email and try the link again.

We hope that Apple will have this issue fixed very soon. In the meantime, we hope the above helps you to keep enjoying the lessons your child/student shares with you.

  • Where in World School does this happen?
  • How often do you experience this issue?
  • What model iPhone or iPad do you have?
  • What version of iOS are you using?

The more details you can give us, the quicker we can help you.

If you don’t know what model iPhone or iPad you have, simply look at the small writing on the back of the device and note down the number next to “Model” which will say something like A1549, A1701 or similar.

To find out what version of iOS you have, simply go to Settings, select General and click on Software Update.
